About Open Office Hours
The World Information Architecture Association (WIAA) hosts Open Office Hours, a new quarterly forum for the global information architecture community. These sessions share updates on current initiatives, discuss challenges facing the field, and gather input on WIAA's work.
Each hour has three parts:
We share what's happening. We give a short update on the Association: World IA Day, the IA Certificate Program, World IA Café, the website, and ways to get involved.
We open the floor. Bring your questions, share what you're working on, or just listen. This is your time with the people behind WIAA and others in the community.
We record the update, not the discussion. We record and post the opening update afterward. The open conversation stays off the record, so everyone can speak freely.

Why we do this
Unlike formal presentations or structured webinars, these office hours embrace an open, conversational format. We believe in transparency about both our successes and our struggles—from declining event participation post-COVID to the evolving nature of IA practice itself. Each session covers what we're actively working on (like our new certificate program and website migration) while creating space for community members to raise questions, share ideas, and influence our priorities.
We're inspired by other organizations that maintain regular community touchpoints, recognizing that annual events alone aren't enough to support a thriving professional community.
