# What is World IA Day? World Information Architecture Day is dedicated to the empowerment of local leaders. Our celebrations inspire the global growth of information architecture as a community of practice and we value diverse thoughts and thinkers in our celebrations. World IA Day is jointly produced by a network of global, regional, and local volunteers. WIAD celebrations are carefully planned locally and coordinated by global volunteers as a concerted event around the world. The content and design of each WIAD celebration is unique. ### Free format WIAD events can take the form of any presentation format, from speaker sessions to interactive workshops, [pecha kucha](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PechaKucha), and demonstrations. They can cover any range of industries as long as it highlights the use and or importance of information architecture and the global theme. ### Community-driven A WIAD event is organized by volunteers from the local community. Its goal is to spark and inspire conversation and build community. ## World IA Day is not: * A WIAD event is not an industry or marketing conference. It is not used to sell or market products or services * A WIAD event cannot be used to raise money for other organizations other than for the local event and the global organization. * A WIAD event is not a platform for professional speakers, such as motivational speakers and professional life coaches. Its purpose is to give a platform to those who don’t often have one. * A WIAD event is not focused solely on entrepreneurship, business, or technology.
